Transition
Te whakahuritanga
Any change can be stressful and a period of transition ahead - whether it be a change in role, living circumstances or other life changes - can create stress. Early preparation is key to ensuring your successful transition; it’s never too early to start thinking or planning.
Preparing for transition
The prospect of making the transition from military to civilian life can be difficult for many people, especially if you have been in the NZDF for many years, or if the decision to leave has been sudden or involuntary. It's important you get support through this transition in a way that acknowledges both the opportunities and challenges ahead, and the apprehension that can sometimes be associated with this. It's also important that you feel recognised for your services and contributions.
Make sure you access additional support if transition is feeling difficult, to smooth the path for you, reduce the likelihood of issues cropping up down the track, and prepare you for success in your future endeavours.
There are many things you can do to get ready for transition. The NZDF Transition Guide (included further down) contains a range of useful information to help you prepare, to understand and recognise feelings and difficulties people sometimes experience during transition, to give you tips for a successful transition, and let you know where you can go for a helping hand.
